Melbourne Alleyways

One thing Melbourne has over New York are it's alleyways. They snake in and out of the main streets and often have awesome graffiti.

Australia's native sons--ACDC!

This Scooby montage was on the side of the house in which Duncs' brother Aaron lives.

Great Ocean Road VI

Some more scenery from the Great Ocean Road "London Bridge"

Bells Beach--famous surf beach. Please immediately rewatch "Point Break" to understand it's significance.

Great Ocean Road V

On our way back through the Otway National Park we took a muddy hike to Shelley beach.
Just minutes after taking this photo an errant wave crashed over the rock I was standing on and soaked my jeans and boots--argh!

What's scarier--snake or big tree falling on your head?

Great Ocean Road IV

We spent the evening in Port Fairy. What must be a bustling tourist spot in the summer is a sleepy town of locals and fishermen in the winter. There are 4 pubs in Port Fairy and we went on a mission to have a beer in all of them. Luckily we had 10oz "pots" of draft beer, common in Victoria. If you see a "hotel" in Australia don't be confused, it's a pub.

Always a good reminder . . .

Great Ocean Road III

We stopped at dusk at the Tower Hill Nature Reserve and were able to see some classic Australian wildlife: kangaroos, koalas, wallaby, emu and native birds. I guess I can go home now.

Great Ocean Road II

Next stop on the Great Ocean Road was the 12 Apostles. There never were 12, I've read they were given the religious moniker back in the day to attract tourists. There is one less than a few years back, when one crashed into the sea because of erosion.

Matt takes Australia!

Matt is in the middle of a 3 week trip to beautiful Australia! We introduced him properly with an Aussie Rules Football game on his first night in town, along with Duncs' brother Aaron. The next day we were off on the Great Ocean Road, which runs for about 150 miles along the coast west of Melbourne. The first day we stopped at the Otway National Forest for a hike to the Triplet Falls.

It was rainy so we got brother/sister matching ponchos.

Matt nearly eaten by ancient fern.
