Newly constructed temple near Footscray, Melbourne, short walk from our house, along the Maribyrnong River (no, I cannot pronounce that).
In Australia most houses are sold at live public auction in front of the house, run by the real estate agent. People just show up and place bids to buy their home. This little number went for AUS $685,000!

Wow, what a weird way to sell a house! Not sure what that would be in US dollars, but it sounds kinda pricey given the house which looks pretty tiny. Are there a lot of newer Asian immigrants in Aus (the temple makes me ask)? There are in NZ - many in last 10-15 years, and it's really changed the overall culture since NZ was previously pretty white/British influenced. --Maija
ReplyDeleteIt is pretty pricey--apparently the housing crisis did not hit Australia, and the inner suburbs of Melbourne seem to be a desirable place to live.
ReplyDeleteYes, lots of Asian immigrants here. Great food as well. Although until 1973 there was a "White Australia" policy that restricted immigration!
